Melakka - World Heritage

Successful we arrived in Kuala Lumpur from the Cameron Highlands via hitch hiking. The price from KL to Melaka was a joke and so we took the bus all the way down to the world heritage city. Actually we just wanted to stay 2 or 3 days, but we could decline this good offer. Paying 3 nights, staying 5 nights. 120 MYR was just a bargain.

Melaka’s history reached back to the 14th century. Everybody wanted to claim this city as its own. Indian, Chinese, Portuguese, Dutch and English  people changed position on and off because this place next to Strait of Melaka was an important town during that time. That is the reason for so many different kind of cultures around here. The main attractions are in the central and easy accessible. If you have some time left, try to rent a bicycle and start to discover the suburbs. Be witness from the normal life of the locals far away from tourism.

On the weekend there is also a big night market, which is very interesting. Tasty food, souvenirs, stuff what nobody needs, clothes and a stage for karaoke were to find here. The alley was filled with people and it was hard to move. Good for us because there was a lot to see. A little highlight are the colourful bicycles with any kind of music in the center.

The 6 days in this beautiful city went by as fast as a plane. We already tried to figure out our next destination. Either Singapore with its crazy buildings and weird laws or Indonesia with its more than 17000 islands. We found the law “chewing gums at public places not allowed” in Singapore ridicules and so we decided to take the ferry to Dumai/ Sumatra on the next day.
